Water Service Line Inventory

The City of Tecumseh Utilities Department is working throughout the city to excavate a certain number of water service lines to homes as part of a program to verify the materials that make up the water lines. This is a requirement by the State of Michigan and the Federal EPA to create a complete water service line inventory in every community throughout the state as a method to locate, verify and eliminate lead service lines.

Even in communities like Tecumseh that have records indicating there are "no known lead service lines" a random selection of addresses must have the water service lines exposed to verify the information.  Each excavation is then documented and  reported to the State of Michigan so a state-wide inventory can be maintained.

Once an address is randomly selected, the Utilities Department informs the property owner, and the work is completed along with the Department's other daily routines.

If you have questions regarding this program, please contact the Tecumseh Utilities Department at 517-423-0402 or by email at tknepper@tecumsehmi.gov.
